Sinomach subsidiary China National Heavy Machinery Corporation (CHMC) recently held an opening ceremony for a 500-kilovolt (KV) power transformer project in Cambodia, to mark the official launch of the remaining project in Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia.
The 500KV power project, generally contracted by CHMC, is designed to build two transmission lines: one from Cambodia's Stung Treng province to its border with Laos, with the other starting in Phnom Penh. It is also expected to expand the single-ended substations.
The section in the Cambodia-Laos border area was completed last year and put into service.
The project is the first 500KV power line in Cambodia. Once operational, the national grid of Cambodia will be among the highest voltage levels in Southeast Asia, and will support the power connectivity between Cambodia and neighboring Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, which is of great strategic importance to Cambodia's power development.
