2022-03-31The new media platform supervised by the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, China's top political advisory body, published a story entitled "Efforts on Carbon Peak and Neutrality Goals, Green Development for Belt and Road" on March 22.
The story highlights Sinomach's commitment to pursuing sustainable development and its efforts to accelerate the country's transition to a green and low-carbon economy. Noting the Al Dhafra PV2 solar project, it reiterates the company's remarkable contributions to boosting green development at home and abroad, and especially the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative.
China has become a global leader in combating climate change with its goals of peaking carbon emissions before 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality before 2060. Sinomach subsidiary China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), a leading enterprise in international engineering, has actively responded to the national strategic priority of developing low-carbon industries.
A green energy transition is a key cornerstone in the world's path to a greener economy, and an inevitable trend of technological progress and industrial innovation. To address the concern of sustainable development, Chinese enterprises have served as participants, facilitators and even leaders in the development of technologies and products and the construction of projects, providing more sustainable solutions for the sector.
By the end of 2020, CMEC Group had built hydropower plants with a combined installed capacity of more than 4,600 megawatts, photovoltaic power stations with more than 1,144.5 megawatts, wind power plants with more than 206.5 megawatts, waste power plants with more than 50 megawatts and biogas power plants with more than 4.8 megawatts in 26 countries and regions around the world.
The CMEC-built Al Dhafra solar power plant in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi will be the world's largest single site photovoltaic plant. Sinomach has been making more efforts to develop the UAE market, especially in the renewable energy sector, as high-quality BRI cooperation thrives. Located in the middle of the desert, the plant should enable the country to accelerate its transitional development of ecologically-sound infrastructure.
As a global landmark project in renewable energy, it will generate enough electricity to sustain power for up to 160,000 homes across the UAE, and reduce Abu Dhabi's CO2 emissions by more than 3.6 million metric tons per year, equivalent to taking 720,000 cars off the roads.

CMEC has been ramping up its push for solar facilities worldwide especially in BRI countries. The transition to a low-carbon economy is an arduous journey. But it is aligned with the intrinsic interest of further growing the global economy and improving the welfare of people across the world. In the long run, the new economic opportunities created by the low-carbon transition will eventually benefit China and the world as a whole.
